Material

Material

There are some substances that are Banned by RoHS Directive. LEAD is the most significant substance in the electronics industry because the majority of components have lead as part of their makeup.

The solder used in the assembly of these components, such as bonding to the printed circuit board is composed of lead.

RoHS

Banned/Restricted Substances

Cadmium = For Batteries, paints, yellow pigment, plastics additives (especially PVC used in cable assemblies), phosphorescent coatings, detectors/devices/LEDs

Mercury = For Switches, pigments, paints, polyurethane materials (high gloss windows), lamps, displays, scanners, projectors

Hexavalent Chromium = For Metal finishes for corrosion protection, chasses, fasteners, aluminum conversion coatings, alloys, pigments paints

Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs) = For Flame retardants, plastics, housings, cables, connectors, fans, components

Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE) = Which is the same as PBBs

Lead = For Solder and interconnects, batteries, paints, pigments, piezoelectric devices, discrete components, sealing glasses, CRT glass, PVC cables (UV/heat stabilizer), metal parts, chasses, washers
