Analog Components & Secrets

ANALOG - Refers to electronic transmission accomplished by adding signal of varying frequency or amplitude to carrier waves of a given frequency of alternating electromagmetic current.

Technology used for more than 50 years

Radio, TV and some cellular phones are examples of this technology.

TYPICAL APPLICATION - Reception of a signal from a Microphone and its amplication and output to a loudspeaker.

Your voice is captured ba diaphragm within the microphone which causes a magnet to vibrate creating a continuously fluctuating electrical signal that is passed through a wire circuit and recieved on the other end.

TERMS

Bandwidth - The amount of spectrum available to each communications licensee. For digital conversion, the "Grand Alliance" plan approved by the FCC calls for the allocation of 6 Mhz (megahertz) of the broadcast spectrum for each television broadcaster. It can be used for one signal, or one HDTV signal, or four multicast digital signals, and/or data transmission.

Spectrum (Electromagnetic Spectrum) - A means of charting the order of radio and television signals in terms of their physical wavelength. A continuous range of frequencies in the earth's atmosphere
